Paris is probably one of the most famous cities in the world and has over 30 million visitors every year just wishing to experience this diverse city, but for obvious reasons, anyone travelling to Paris will need to think about some form of accommodation and there are thousands of hotels to choose from.

As with any city, there are the very basic hotels, then you get the ones rated from 1 Star hotels up to the exceedingly luxurious 5 Star hotels, yet incredibly, there are actually more 3 Star hotels in Paris than any other type.

But please bear in mind that in some of the basic hotels they do not have their own bathrooms and some have no washing or toilet facilities within a room at all, and therefore these are shared between several rooms.

Plus Paris is renowned for having smaller hotel rooms than those you would find in places like the UK and especially America where space is often considered a priority, and therefore many budget hotels will often have quite small rooms.

Now when it comes to travelling to Paris, most people will arrive via train or plane and then either use the underground or get a taxi to their desired hotel, but if you are thinking about arriving by car, then bear in mind that parking is a major problem and there are actually very few hotels in Paris that do have their own car parking area. Yet if you are driving into Paris, there are some hotels that do offer preferential rates for public car parks located close by and these can range in price from 20 Euros upwards per day.

Another point you may not have thought about, is that in Europe it is rare to get facilities for making a cup of tea or coffee in your room, so do not be disappointed if you do not have a kettle, etc, but the hotels that do provide this service usually make a point of saying so.

Also, most hotels in Paris do not quote a price with breakfast included as this is usually an optional extra charged per person, but some basic hotels and one star hotels do not serve any breakfast.

Many hotels state a Continental Breakfast, which usually consists of things such as cereals, rolls, croissants, jams, fruit juice and coffee, although some will provide a basic buffet breakfast. It is not usually until you get up to 3 star hotels and 4 star hotels in Paris that they are likely to provide a fuller buffet style breakfast as well as a Continental style breakfast option, yet luxury hotels tend to have a variety of different types of breakfast to suit International tastes.

Paris is an animal friendly city with lots of hotels allowing you to bring your dog with you, although there is often an additional charge for this, plus lots are now catering more for families. So rather than requesting an extra bed within a room you have a great choice of hotels that have triple rooms or quadruple rooms available, which does mean more space to move around!

Being a city renowned for its history, there are numerous hotels that are located within very old buildings and have lots of character, yet many have been modernised to include facilities such as satellite or cable TV and a lift for those of us that are less able or just too lazy to carry the luggage up the stairs!

Visiting Paris on business is also easier now as many Paris hotels have internet access or WiFi available not just in common areas, but also within the rooms, yet some do charge for their use, so it would be wise to check prior to booking if you wish to take your laptop with you.

And the last thing we feel you need to consider when booking a hotel, is where it is located. Obviously some areas are more costly than others, like being near to most famous Paris monument, the Eiffel Tower but if you are willing to be a little further out like in the business district, then you can get a far better deal on the same quality hotel.

This 4 mile stretch is so bright with outdoor lighting displays; it’s considered the brightest place on earth.

Visitors to The Strip enjoy viewing resorts themed with replicate skylines of New York and Paris, the canals of Venice and the Pyramids of Egypt. At Treasure Island, witness authentic battles between a Pirate ship and a British Galleon.
Honey, we are going to Paris!

Ah, the joys of preparing for the occasion…

The pleasure of diving into your favorite travel guides (I suggest visiting website Paris-Eiffel-Tower-News.com) to plan out your everyday itinerary… The sheer excitement of stuffing a large suitcase with the entire appropriate garb…

But hold on! Have you thought of leaving enough room in your luggage to bring a few gifts back home?

Bringing back cool gifts. A major important task on your To-Do-When-I’m-There list. Yes, yes, yes. But where will you find nicely original (and attractively inexpensive) stuff?

Well, search no more, I did it for you.

First Gift Opportunity: a Designer Depot

In a previous article I wrote about “designer depots”: small boutiques where it is possible to find vintage or last-season designer garb at very low prices. I like these shops; they are treasures troves where finding a deeply-discounted Chanel suit or Yves Saint Laurent dress is always within the realm of possibilities.

“Chercheminippes” is one of them. The name of the shop is a play on words: it means “searching for clothes” and is a reminder of the street name “Cherche-Midi” (or “searching for noon” in French) where the shop is located.

“Chercheminippes” is not just one shop, but a string of five shops lining the Cherche-Midi Street in the plush 6th district (near the “Sevres-Babylone” metro station, and at walking distance from Saint Germain des Pres). Each shop offers a specific category of items: women’s wear, designer clothes, men’s fashion, child wear, and home decoration.

Every piece of clothing is second-hand but in excellent condition. The owner, Mrs. Bayonne, only buys well-known brands, including French designer brands. She discounts her merchandise by 50% on average.

“Chercheminippes” also offers linen, pens, relatively inexpensive designer jewelry, and various fashion accessories. Unlike traditional designer depot owners, Mrs. Bayonne’s also shops for decorative objects, both contemporary and vintage. There lies more gift potential for you!

Swing by Rue du Cherche-Midi, you will find the five shops tucked between No. 102 and No. 124.

Second Stop on Gift Road

Situated on the ground floor of a private mansion at 9 Place Furstenberg, one of my very favorite places in Paris, “Nolita” carries an unusual assortment of things in a very feminine ‘boudoir’ universe. That prices range from 10 euros to 3,000 euros is an indication of the wide diversity of items on offer. Let’s just say “Nolita” deals in everything that is interior design.

For the shopper looking for singular gifts, the shop presents a vast array of possibilities: linen, tableware, glassware, quaint decorative objects, and even vintage repainted furniture. “Nolita” also carries toiletries, including several lines of soaps. If you are looking for clothing items, the shop may have something for you too.

The owner, Mrs. Lassalle, sources her merchandise from France, Italy and England. Choice and diversity are keywords here, and I think it is unlikely you will leave the shop without a couple of gifts in your shopping bag. I heard “Nolita” is a shopping spot for many American and Japanese travelers.

Place Furstenberg hides between Saint-Germain-des-Pres and the river Seine. You owe it to yourself to discover this quaint area. The closest subway station is Saint-Germain-des-Pres.

The Red Cedar of the Prince Gardener

“Le Cedre Rouge du Prince Jardinier” carries both indoor and outdoor objects. Located at 22 Avenue Victoria, in the very central first district (”Chatelet” subway station), the shop is a cross between the Outpost, Home Depot, Hold Everything, and Williams-Sonoma mail-order catalogues.

There you will find unwieldy by beautiful outdoor furniture made by local craftsmen (tables, lounge chairs and chairs in teak, marble, travertine, and volcanic stone), as well as garden decoration items and tooling (how about a nice red gardener apron and hat? Or a large hemp-fiber bag to carry your groceries in rugged style?).

Fortunately for travelers, “The Red Cedar of the Prince Gardener” also offers more portable indoor objects, including Christmas decorations, a large assortment of perfumed candles and candle-holders, oil lamps, curious plaids and pillows, extraordinary Venetian and vintage glassware, numerous tableware and silverware sets, vases of various shapes and forms, and many other wares of sorts. Even a series of not-seen-elsewhere umbrellas.

I don’t think there is any like shop in Paris. Very unusual, kind of out-of-place, but so interesting it is absolutely worth a visit. And if you fall for a lounge chair or a large fireplace screen, they will ship it to your home. Ask for Patrice, he’s a most helpful fellow.

Well, these are but a few useful boutiques to visit should you plan on bringing something out of the ordinary from Paris for a friend or a relative. I will continue to shop for more of these places, and let you know whenever I find some I like.

Meanwhile, prepare well for your next trip to Paris!

Most cities in Europe have tours to see the main monuments, landmarks and points of interest and Paris is no exception, with different excursions and tour operators that are a great way of getting to see the main sights.

With most tours only lasting an average of one hour this can be a pleasant trip for all members of the family, no matter what their age, and with documentaries supplied in different languages, you can even find out some very interesting facts along the way.

Within Paris there are two bus firms that provide these tours and also a hop on and hop off service, so for the one payment you can utilise the buses as many times as you like during the day.

Les Car Rouges was the original tour bus firm in Paris, which are the red buses that provide one specific route with pick up and drop off points around the city, and although varying according to the time of year, arrive at these stops on an average of every 15 to 30 minutes.

The second tour operator has four different routes around Paris, which will get you to see a lot more of the different tourist attractions. Called l’Open Tour Buses they are very easy to spot in their yellow and green colour, yet are slightly more expensive for a pass. But because they have more varied destinations from one side of the city to another, you can hop on and off different buses to go on different routes, which will get you covering far more of the incredible monuments and landmarks that Paris has to offer.

You can purchase tickets in advance, via selected outlets or in some cases from the bus drivers themselves and both of these tour operators have an open deck at the top of the bus, which is a great place to view the sights on a pleasant day and audio guides in different languages for additional information on the famous sights.

The Batobus service is another great way of getting around Paris and runs along the River Seine, although you would have to be mobile in aspects of negotiating stairs and steep inclines at the banks of the River Seine. It has specific drop off and pick up points and by purchasing a ticket you can go right round the route or do as with the buses on a hop on and hop off aspect using the ticket throughout the day. Some places the Batobus takes you are the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, The Louvre and other famous places situated along the Seine.

However, if you are an energetic and an environmentally friendly type of person, then you may wish to consider using a bicycle to get around Paris, and if you do not have your own cycle with you, then the city has a great system in place called the Velib plus cycle lanes amounting to around 350 kilometres.

You can hire a bike with the Vélib’ Self-Service Bike Scheme, with pick up and drop off points all over the city of Paris only around 300 metres apart. There is an initial set up charge and only a small fee when you use your cycle, but the first 30 minutes of every ride are completely free and you can choose the duration of your ticket from one day, five day, even a yearly pass.

Unfortunately, you do have to be over fourteen years of age to take advantage of this service, but it is definitely a great way of keeping fit and a pleasant alternative from the metro, so you actually get to see the sights on route and you can obtain these passes online or at any of the Velib Service Points.

Even when you have children with you, travelling around Paris can be fun, and although the rush hour times are always going to be hectic, taking the more touristy type options can be a lot more fun for everyone and you get to see a lot more of Paris from above ground!

Paris, France is one of the most romantic as well as the most beautiful cities in the world. The city is just so enchanting and very addictive which lovers should be visiting. Paris, also known as the city of light, may be a bit expensive to travel to, but mind you, it is really a nice and lovely city to visit.

When you are in Paris, you will be greeted with its romantic atmosphere that will enchant you and the lovers per se. The city has its elegant, graceful and majestic buildings that you can actually get to see. There are wonderful galleries that you can visit and who would miss out to visit their churches and famous palaces that were built years ago? In your afternoon walks or early morning jog, you can always go to their wonderful theme parks with gardens full of trees and different kinds of beautiful flowers. For sure, you will not just have your daily exercise, but as well as enjoy the beauty that the city possess. Not only does Paris is gifted with its natural beauty but it also has some of the world’s best bridges.

If you happen to wish to take a tour on the entire city, you can always do so by going to the city’s visitor center where you can buy tickets for the double Decker bus. The price may be quite expensive which ranges from 25 to 30 Euro, but do not be taken aback by this since the tour experience is undeniably priceless. You will get to see the city within the day and also while riding the bus, you can always have the headset and listen to the audio guide tours, which you can always choose your own preferred language.

Listed below are two of the many tourist attractions that you can visit while you are in the city. These attractions are the ones that you should not miss out when you are visiting Paris.

The Eiffel tower
Paris’s main tourist attraction is the Eiffel which was built around the year 1889. It has a height of about 990 feet, which is the tallest you can see in the entire city. What is great about this tower is that you can always have the option to go up the tower or just simply take a look at the wonderful tower soaring above you. If you wish to go up the tower and enjoy the city below, you can either walk up or take the elevator. When you are here in the famous tower, do not forget to bring you camera and take pictures of yourself. In addition to this, if you want to have tour guides with you, there are English guides available for you at the booth that can offer some services for you.

The Notre Dame
The Notre Dame is the grand old historical Cathedral which is located in the island of Seine or “Ile de la Cite”. The Notre Dame Cathedral is considered to be the best looking Cathedral in the world. It is a gothic cathedral and has an impressive architecture. What is great about this is that it is free to visit, that is why missing this one out is highly regrettable.

For a short visit, a week-end, a city break, these free pocket guides are useful printable and downloadable tools available online.

The island of Crete, the largest Greek island, is located in the south Mediterranean.

In general, Flashbooking guides have been written for giving the essential information about the most visited cities in the world and in particular for any traveller or first-time visitor (<a rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank” href=”http://www.flashbooking.com/viewcity.do?id=236&idc=30″>cheap apartments Crete).

The island’s northern coastline is jagged and forms numerous bays and inlets, while the southern coast is high and rocky and presents a semi-desert image, with the island’s coastal plains being densely populated.

With the monthly newsletter, Flashbooking puts at travellers, students, volunteers free disposal some useful pocket travel guides of major European cities: the Amsterdam City guide, the London City guide, the Prague City guide, the Paris City guide, the Rome City guide, the Florence City guide, and the freshly issued Crete Island guide!! For the Crete travel guide Flashbooking staff efforts concentrate on making it simple to read dividing the Crete centre in different districts with their relevant amenities.

The Ciclade islands, stretch northwards in the Attica region. The islands, arranged in a circle around the small central island of Delo, include: Andros, Santorino, Serifos, Naxos and Mikonos and are characterized by white cube-shaped houses.

Flashbooking chose to provide backpackers, students and families with a list of budget selected and independent accommodations worldwide, mostly run by locals, in order to promote an alternative tourism respectful of cultures and different societies. For this and other reasons Flashbooking is becoming a recognized source of information and services for who loves creating a trip by him/herself and book bed nights securely online.

The Sporadi islands are situated to the north and include Skiros and Skopelos. Lemno and Rhodes lie in the northern Aegean sea between continental Greece and Turkey.
