Simple Minds - I travel 1980

Of course you can travel just about anywhere with your kids on a budget. Like any travel experience on a budget you need to research and plan well to make the most of your travel dollar. Many places, however, are family or kid friendly and will throw in added extras for the children. So whether you intend traveling at home or abroad, look for places that will cater to your family’s needs.

RV trips are a great way to travel on a budget. In fact, traveling with a car is almost essential for families. It is usually cheaper than buying rail passes or catching taxis everywhere. But more importantly, it gives you that ‘door to door’ freedom that is necessary when traveling with kids.

If you are traveling overseas, have you considered staying in a hostel with your family? This is a much cheaper option than staying in hotels and many hostels are family friendly and have no age limit (except in Bavaria where you can’t be older than twenty six). You can request a room with enough bunk beds to accommodate your family and you can cook your meals in the communal kitchen. Huge savings to be made!

In the USA there are many places to travel with your family on a budget. Consider these options:

1. Camping. The cheapest option around for any travel adventure. Many campsites have activities for kids and if you don’t like the idea of staying in a tent, many places have cabins to rent that are still cheaper than a hotel room. Camping gets you up close and personal with nature and gets the kids outside and running around.

2. What about spending some time at a Working Farm or Dude Ranch? Look around for reasonably priced holidays at these destinations and you will find plenty of activities and atmosphere for kids and adults alike.

3. Head to Disneyland in off peak season for big savings.

4. The same can be said for traveling to Hawaii. Check the packages available in low season and see how affordable it is.

5. You’ll also find some excellent deals in traveling to Mexico. Go for all-inclusive resorts, especially in the low season.

What about if you want to travel overseas? Where are some good places to take the kids on a budget?

* Although Australia is a long way away and can be a bit pricey to get there, it is a very child-friendly place with lots of cost saving adventures to be had for the kids. Australian off peak is different from North America so do some research.

* Europe can be done on a budget with kids. Pick your destinations with the kids in mind. Get them involved in your itinerary. Stay in hostels and travel by car. You’ll be amazed at how much you save and how much you see.

* Some island resorts are very child friendly. In Fiji there are resorts where children under twelve stay and eat for free. Do your research!

* How about a family cruise? Cruises are great because they are all-inclusive, cater for families and you get to explore lots of places. There are some good family package deals to be found with most cruise companies.

So get planning and get packed. Plan your family vacation and check out the deals available. Going off peak is the best way to save money. If you are going to take the kids out of school buy them a journal so they can record their experiences. It’s amazing how much they’ll learn by traveling with their family.

Help answer the question about Travel

How long to travel to Mars from the point of view of those traveling?
I've heard that it will take roughly 9 months to travel to Mars. But, time travels faster when farther away from large gravitational fields. How long will it take from the point of view of an astronaut making the trip? What will be the maximum difference in the speed of time from an astronaut on the journey from the speed of time at mission control on earth?

  1. Oh, don’t lecture me on good behaviour. So you don’t think it’s annoying that everyone speaks English and then someone speaks German, knowing we don’t understand (well, I do a bit) but expects us to DO understand?

  2. i love this version/video. played loud while the kids are out hahaha, still 18 years old in my head when i listen to this.
pity i still didnt have the head of hair to match.

  3. Heard this for the first time on, “Awaydays.” Amazing. Thanks for posting.

  4. SpaceTime is the 4th Dimension
The faster you travel through it the faster time passes by.
Curving spacetime causes time to slow down
Earths mass effecting spacetime causing a curve
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Spacetime_curvature.png
But in reality it is 4D so the curve is more like this:
    http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/5015/spacetimelu3.jpg

The time in empty space travels faster than time on Earth due to Earth causing a curve in spacetime

Its like this the curve means more space for something to travel across ie time where as a smooth spacetime takes less space for something to travel across like someone running across a valley while another runs across a flat surface.
Traveling faster is like running faster than someone else you will get to the finish line before them ie travel faster in space youll be in the future before the time you would if you went slower.

  5. You divide the numer of miles travelled by the number of hours and the result – the constant of variation – is 3.66 (recurring) miles per hour.

  6. boring old floppy u2 are starting to fret now another new bland commercial GREY band is pushing them out finally YAWN coldplay YAWN more brainless drivel where is our new SM ?

  7. I am a travel agent with YTB. The company provided me with a website that people can go on to and book there travel. They also provide all the training and support I need to be a successful travel agent. It is really a great program and I've already booked travel for some friends of mine and seen the commission. When you sign up with the company you get your creditials in a couple weeks after signing up. This is a very legitimate and trustworthy company that has been in the business for over 5 years. Also publicly traded. Watch this presentation for a little more information: http://www.travelproinsider.com my personal site is http://www.ytbtravel.com/kuhlber
Contact me and I will answer any questions you may have and give you more information.

  8. where was I in those days, listening to the wrong music?
Coldplay, Snowpatrol can even come near to the SM!
They are still good, saw them last week, and they respect their fans, what not can be said about for example Oasis, they disrespect their fans at a live show….
    Simple Minds forever

  9. Yes I was going to say that, its exactly what I hear and can confirm also from a number of lyrics sites.

  10. This is Simple Minds at their best easily one of the best bands to emerge from Britain in the post-punk era.

  11. No you can not travel to Europe with a US refugee travel document. You would have to have a passport. Just having a refugee document won't be enough. No European country will accept this document.

  12. actually if you only considered time dilatation due to gravity, the clocks on earth would be slower than clocks on a spacecraft which is not in the gravity well of earth

However in this case, time dilation due to speed will be present so the net effect will be that the clocks on the spacecraft will be slower than that on earth.

Escape velocity from earth is 11.186 km/s. Lets be generous and say the space ship can go 10x that. Using the calculations from the website below, time dilatation factor would be 1.0000000696110642 times slower. If i calculate correctly, you lose 2 point something seconds a year

  13. Echt joh? Geweldig.

Just speak English. If you don’t get it on school learn it elsewhere, simpleton.

  14. Wow! This song brings me back to those early 80’s in the mosh pit! Awsome time, great song!

  15. About 3 days between leaving an orbit around Earth and settling into an orbit around the moon.

After launch on Saturn V SA-504 on July 16, 1969 from pad 39A of Kennedy Space Center, Apollo 11 entered Earth orbit. After 1 1/2 Earth orbits, the S-IVB stage was re-ignited at 16:16:16 UT for a translunar injection burn of 5 minutes, 48 seconds putting the spacecraft on course for the moon. The CSM separated from the S-IVB stage containing the LM33 minutes later, turned around and docked with the LM at 16:56:03 UT. About an hour and 15 minutes later the S-IVB stage was injected into heliocentric orbit. During translunar coast a color TV transmission was made from Apollo 11 and on July 17 a 3-second mid-course correction burn of the main engine was performed. Lunar orbit insertion was achieved on July 19 at 17:21:50 UT by a retrograde firing of the main engine for 357.5 seconds while the spacecraft was behind the moon and out of contact with Earth. A later 17 second burn circularized the orbit. On July 20 Armstrong and Aldrin entered the LM for final checkout. At 18:11:53 the LM and CSM separated. After a visual inspection by Collins, the LM descent engine fired for 30 seconds at 19:08 UT, putting the craft into a descent orbit with a closest approach 14.5 km above the moon's surface. At 20:05 the LM descent engine fired for 756.3 seconds and descent to the lunar surface began

  16. Well, you should replace your documentation for your study permit but to travel within Canada you will probably not need it. To fly within Canada you have to be able to prove who you are which, under Transport Canada regulations, you must have a valid piece of government issued photo ID which a passport is. For a complete list you can check the Transport Canada website (link below)

  17. The travel writing industry is a very hard one to break into.

If you have good background credentials, especially in writing/journalism, it doesn't hurt to try. Apply with National Geographic or Lonely Planet. They're both good companies.
